UCPNB's 2024 Summer Bike/Swim Camp provides a nurturing environment for children with disabilities, offering specialized instruction and adaptive techniques to empower them in learning how to swim and ride bikes, fostering confidence and joy in their activities.

UCPNB's Camp Kaos offers inclusive outdoor experiences tailored to children and young adults with diverse abilities, featuring a blend of traditional camp games and activities alongside the enjoyment of Howarth Park's attractions such as paddle boats, carousel rides, and train rides. It provides a supportive environment fostering growth, friendship, and adventure for all participants.

Featured Activities

Activities for adults with developmental disabilities include Summer and Winter Residential Camps at Camp Arroyo, Sea Kayaking, River Rafting, and Cross-Country Skiing.  Activities for children with developmental disabilities include Bike Camp, Swim Camp, Surf Camp, Camp Kaos, and Cypress Summer Day Camp.

  • Camp Kaos

    Camp Kaos is a four-day camp located at Howarth Park in Santa Rosa serving children ages 6-22 with physical and developmental disabilities. Camp activities include hiking, train rides, carousel rides, paddle boating, and canoeing, all of which are available at Howarth Park. Additional recreation activities including arts and crafts and outdoor games are adapted for all campers to fully participate. Supervision and support is provided by Camp Counselors (staff) and Volunteers from Sonoma State University and local high schools.

  • Bike and Swim Camp

    Bike/Swim Camp is an instructional program located at Sonoma State University that teaches campers with developmental and/or physical disabilities ages 8-22 how to ride a conventional two-wheeled bicycle. The camp provides an immersion experience for campers learning to ride a two-wheeled bicycle by using specially designed equipment and teaching methods to promote skill development, self-confidence, and self-esteem. The swim portion of the camp provides a “learn through play” recreation activity at the completion of bicycle riding.

  • Adventure Trips

    Adventure Trips are outdoor recreation activities that provide a variety of safe risk-taking, self-esteem building experiences for adults with developmental disabilities. UCP of the North Bay currently provides three different Adventure Trips: Sea Kayaking (one-day camp), White Water River Rafting (two-day overnight), and Cross Country Skiing (three-day overnight). Supervision and support is provided by UCP of the North Bay staff members and skilled volunteers from Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC).

Surrounded by stunning natural beauty and equipped with modern amenities, it offers a supportive and empowering setting for campers of all abilities to connect and thrive.
