Cypress Adaptive Behavior Program

Unlocking Potential: The Cypress Adaptive Behavior Program

Overview

The Cypress Adaptive Behavior Program is an after-school and summer program providing daily community outings and activities focused on recreation, socialization and independent living for students with developmental disabilities aged 5-22.

Program Goals

The program is designed to support participants to improve interaction and engagement with peers and community members, through guided practice and naturalistic teaching opportunities. The program is unique in its approach providing positive behavior supports with an emphasis on peer play and group participation in community environments. The team consists of Board Certified Behavior Analysts and Master’s level behavior interns, with program coordinators and managers that plan and lead activities designed to promote collaboration, communication, creative expression, and critical thinking.

Program Philosophy

Similar to the Cypress School philosophy, the idea that learning and socializing are pleasurable experiences for participants in the Adaptive Behavior Program is a core value. The staffing ratio is 1:2 to provide the support necessary to track progress and achieve goals in reducing maladaptive behavior, and increasing communication, coping strategies, agency and independence, imaginative play, and cooperative correspondence.

Our Facilities

We have two campuses located in Petaluma: Cypress Primary School serving students ages 5-14 and Cypress Secondary School serving students ages 14-22.

“My child has successfully engaged in more community based activities in his first two days of Cypress than his whole life.”
