UCP of the North Bay
Community Outreach Update
June 12, 2020
Today we hope to hear the final budget compromise worked out by the California state legislature and Governor Newsom. Hopefully, everyone has responded to the Action Alerts we sent out this week and if not, please do so now. It is also important that we continue to advocate with our federal representatives to insure all states receive the funds necessary to support education, health and human services, fire, police and other essential services.
Before moving on to our next community event, we want to give the final report on Giving Tuesday where we raised $18,000 and purchased 300 Amazon Fire Tablets to distribute to UCP of the North Bay participants. We successfully addressed a significant technology barrier to participating in online classes and activities that have kept our community connected and informed. Although we didn’t recognize the added benefit initially, the tablets have helped to engage family members and care providers with our participants through our online program activities.
We have presented three online community events. Gone for Good held their first Family/Caregiver Night and has another one scheduled for Wednesday, June 17 at 5:00 p.m., our Recreation Program held a Camp Caz Talent Show in lieu of our postponed summer camp with a 93 person audience, and Giving Tuesday wrapped-up with our Zoom Community Unity Event including inspirational stories and comedy from our Giving Tuesday Ambassador, Michael Pritchard. We are now identifying programs in the community that have participants who need donated tablets for access to their online activities.
Public health organizations emphasize that we must continue to take preventive steps that insure safe physical distancing. Work hard, be kind, stay safe and stay connected.
