UCP of the North Bay
Adult Day Program Update
July 31, 2020
Helping Participants through Personal Connection
Program Highlights
- Gone for Good, WineBev Services and OADS continue to share staff members to complete onsite packaging, recycling, and sorting projects, as well as community-based contract work for local businesses and municipalities. It is important that we maintain our paid work opportunities for participants until they are able to return to work. Our direct service staff members contact participants daily, conduct online classes, and respond to individual participant needs as they arise.
- Our Petaluma Recycling Center is experiencing a significant increase in business daily as one of only two recycling centers open in Sonoma County. As a Group Supported Employment location, we have six North Bay Regional Center clients working onsite.
We hope to fill some current Group Supported Employment job openings at a local hardware store and in janitorial services with participants from our Adult Day Programs choosing to join our Supported Employment Program.
- The Senior Program is creating eight Arts and Activities Boxes to deliver to homes that are not able to access our online classes due to lack of wi-fi internet access or scheduling conflicts. The availability of tablets is not an issue because we have Amazon Fire Tablets available for participants through our previous fundraising campaign. Online classes continue to be provided throughout the week by our staff members and were accessed last week by 16 of our 31 participants.
- Our OADS Workplace Safety and Preparedness Class discussed Workplace Harassment. The participants developed a better understanding how their words and actions may be interpreted as harassment by others, even if that was not their intent. A parent of one of our participants shared her thoughts, “I was in the room with my son today and I have to say that staff did a great job covering this topic. The participants enjoyed themselves and they had some good questions that were answered by staff in a way that was understood.”
- One of our OADS Artists has her art currently displayed in the “Petaluma Arts Association Virtual Art in the Parks.” She is an accomplished artist who has won many awards in a number of art shows and events. Our “Open Studios” program allows 25 of our participants an opportunity to explore and produce art for show and for sale, under the guidance of our two Art Instructors. You can view her art on the Petaluma Art Association website: HERE.
- For the week of July 23 through July 29, we presented 82 online classes with a total attendance of 2,019 averaging 22 participants per class. Our unduplicated weekly participant class attendance was Gone for Good 84%, WineBev Services 78%, OADS 75%, and Senior Program 55%. The combined enrollment for our Adult Day Programs is 260: Gone for Good 80, WineBev Services 102, OADS 47, and Senior Program 31.
