UCP of the North Bay was one of 34 local nonprofit agencies that received a grant this year. Our $15,000 award from Valero Benefit for Children will support our Enhanced Transitional Program at Cypress School. The goal of the program is to successfully “transition” students from public school to Cypress School, from Cypress School back to public school whenever possible, and from Cypress School to Adult Employment Programs that provide community-based employment training and paid work opportunities.

We owe a special debt of gratitude to David Le, Valero Benicia Refinery Controller, who invited us to apply for the grant. The invitation, which is required, came as a result of his volunteerism and the volunteerism of other Valero Benicia Refinery Employees with our monthly Gone for Good Shredding Events in Fairfield. David presented the award to Margaret and Laura at the “Heart for Children” breakfast held at the Benicia Clock Tower on November 6. The event was very well attended by both sponsors and recipients.
